Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, setting the standards and rules of modern musical theater. In a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story. Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land.

Tending to Ourselves, Tending to Others: Letting Our Bodies Tell the Story as a Feminist Act
We invite members of the Women’s Initiative Network to come together to celebrate Women’s History Month. Drawing from her research with Dr. Emily J. Klein and their book, Our Bodies Tell the Story: Using Feminist Research and Friendship to Reimagine Education and Our Lives, Dr. Monica Taylor will facilitate interactive discussions around the intersections of feminism, friendship, and the body and the ways self-care is as Audre Lorde wrote, a subversive act. Attendees will consider the ways in which listening to the body is a feminist way of knowing. They will have an opportunity to explore the mind-body connection and relaxation techniques to promote self-care and the balance of mental, emotional, and physical health.
